Follow-Up Questions

What it does: When the AI needs more information to give you a great answer, it pauses and asks targeted clarifying questions in an interactive card — then picks up right where it left off with your answers as context.

How it works

Instead of guessing what you mean, the AI can ask 1–4 follow-up questions before proceeding. This typically happens when you ask it to create, write, or analyze something without specifying key details like topic, audience, format, or which data source to use.

The AI detects ambiguity

You send a message like “Write a proposal for the team” — the AI recognizes it needs more context (who’s the audience? what’s the topic? what format?).

A follow-up card appears

A multi-question stepper card shows up in your chat. Each question includes 2–4 preset answer options to choose from, plus a free-text field if you’d rather type your own answer.

Answer the questions

Select a preset option or type a custom answer. The card automatically advances to the next question. You can also skip individual questions or skip all remaining questions if you’d rather let the AI decide.

The AI continues

Once you’ve answered (or skipped), the AI resumes its work using your answers as context. Your follow-up responses are woven into the conversation so the AI produces exactly what you had in mind.

Pro tip: If the AI asks a question you don’t have a strong opinion on, just skip it. The AI will make a reasonable default choice and keep moving.

Note: The AI won’t ask follow-ups for simple questions, greetings, or factual lookups — only when your request could go in meaningfully different directions and clarification would improve the result.

What the card looks like

  • Progress indicator — shows “1 of 3” so you know how many questions are left
  • Preset options — numbered buttons for common answers (click to select and auto-advance)
  • Custom input — free-text field for anything not covered by the presets
  • Navigation — Back button to revisit previous answers, Skip to move on
  • Collapsed state — after answering, the card collapses to a compact summary showing your responses. Click to expand and review the full Q&A

Tips & gotchas

  • Answers persist across page refreshes — your follow-up state is saved, so you won’t lose progress if you reload the page
  • One follow-up at a time — the AI won’t chain multiple rounds of follow-ups. It asks everything it needs in a single card.
  • Skipping is fine — skipped questions don’t block the AI. It proceeds with whatever context it has.
  • Review your answers — answered follow-up cards stay in the chat as collapsed summaries. Expand them anytime to see what you told the AI.
